Blaster Master Zero 2
Sequel to Blaster Master Zero, released across multiple platforms.
Blaster Master Zero 2 is a platform video game created and released by Inti Creates. It follows up on *Blaster Master Zero*, itself a reimagining of Sunsoft's 1988 NES title *Blaster Master*. The game first launched for the Nintendo Switch in March 2019, then arrived on Windows in November 2019, PlayStation 4 in June 2020, and finally on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in July 2021. A third entry, *Blaster Master Zero 3*, came out in 2021.
**Gameplay** The core gameplay mirrors its predecessor. Players guide the SOPHIA vehicle through side-scrolling stages, exploring and blasting enemies with its arsenal. Jason can leave the tank to enter passages or doors, shifting the view to an overhead perspective. Upgrades for the tank unlock new areas. Boss fights block progress to later levels. Levels are now organized on a world map, with each sector being a planet featuring a smaller interconnected overworld. Optional planetoids, unlocked by collecting map items, contain small stages where Jason can obtain upgrades for himself and his new vehicle, the G-SOPHIA. The G-SOPHIA handles like the old SOPHIA III but includes a GAIA-System that recharges subweapon energy from concussive impacts, such as long falls or enemy hits. If that energy fully drains, the tank becomes severely weakened until it recharges. In overhead areas, Jason gains a Blast Counter technique: when crosshairs appear on an enemy, he can immediately shoot or dash into them before they attack. Both Jason and the G-SOPHIA receive new weapons distinct from the previous game.
**Plot** Months after *Blaster Master Zero*, Jason Frudnick—who had met the frog-like Fred, discovered the tank SOPHIA III, and teamed up with android Eve to destroy the Mutants—was forced to destroy the contaminated vehicle to save Eve from the Overlord's core. Now, Eve's remaining Mutant cells are multiplying and threatening her life. Unable to find a cure on Earth, Jason, Eve, and Fred travel to the planet Sophia for help. Their journey passes through several planets, each guarded by a Metal Attacker, its pilot, and a support android. Jason befriends them and receives special emblems as tokens. He is repeatedly attacked by Leibniz, a vengeful pilot who believes Eve should be left to die, viewing androids as "useless dolls" after losing his own partner Lucia in battle. Near the last sector, they find a planet-sized Mutan

Lore & Background
The game continues the story several months after Blaster Master Zero. Jason Frudnick creates a new vehicle, the G-SOPHIA, capable of space travel, as the remaining Mutant cells in Eve's body threaten to destroy her. Jason, Eve, and Fred travel to the planet Sophia to seek medical attention, journeying through several planets and encountering other Metal Attacker pilots and support androids. The plot involves a vengeful pilot named Leibniz and a giant planet-sized Mutant guarding a dimensional tunnel to Sophia. If all emblems are collected, Eve becomes the player character and, with the help of other Metal Attackers, frees Jason from being turned to stone, leading to a final confrontation with the Mutant Drolrevo.
